The updating works fine every time, the launcher stops doing anything after it got past "unpacking launcher" whenever I do a fresh install. Several reinstalls of the launcher as well as plenty of restarts also did not help. My system has already been checked for any kind of malware or whatever that may affect the launcher. The file itself gets created, but remains empty. Ram usage varies between 6mb and 70mb for both. Starting the launcher creates two instances of minecraftlauncher.exe, one stuck at a constant 25% CPU load, one at 0%. minecraft folder using an NTSF symbolic link, for example by using a tool like steammover ( ), causes the launcher to hang itself without any window shown. Actually figured out what was causing the issue.
